New Time-Management Ideas For Dealing With Math Homework

Juggling your classes and all the work that goes along with them can feel like you’ve got 5 or 6 balls in the air trying to juggle all of them and not drop any. Unless you’re a professional juggler, it’s quite an impossible feat. There’s also family and social life, and possibly work to juggle in there as well.

The way to successfully handle all these demands on your time and still get your math homework done on time is to try out some new time management techniques. Experiment with some of the suggestions below and see which work the best for you.

  1. Make a plan and then stick to it. Start as early in the semester as possible, and block in all your classes first. Next, block in your study and homework time. Of course you will have to eat some meals in there somewhere as well. You can use a print schedule or calendar, or an electronic device to keep track of your time commitments, and also the assignments as they are given.
  2. A general rule of thumb is to spend 1 to 2 hours of study or school work time for each hour of in-class time. Are you able to keep up this type of a schedule given all your time commitments?
  3. Try and schedule in your math time at the same time daily. This does two things for you. First, it forms a habit that will be hard to break after it’s been set in stone. In other words, if you have assigned 4pm – 5pm daily for your math work, and you stick to it each day, then every time 4pm rolls around you will automatically think you should be doing your math homework. The second thing it does for you is helps you get all your assignments done on time regularly.
  4. Schedule your homework time for the time of day when you feel the freshest and most awake. For some students it might be 7am and for others it might be 7pm.
  5. Make sure you schedule adequate sleep time. It’s more connected to how well you do in math than you might think. It’s essential to get enough deep REM sleep in order for your brain to function at its optimal levels. Feeling on top of your game due to good sleeping habits will go a long way to helping you manage your time and school assignments.
